The Drama Club is designed to promote and strengthen theatre arts at Ascension Catholic.  In keeping with Ascension Catholic tradition, Mrs. Sandra Mistretta directed a group of over 150 primary, middle and high school students in the musical version of The Wizard of Oz.  Keandra August earned herself the lead role of Dorothy, and audiences agreed, after hearing her exceptional voice and witnessing her remarkable stage presence, that the role was well deserved.  Auditions began in early November, leaving the actors and actresses with little more than four months to learn their lines and music, paint sets, and stitch together costumes.  As with any production, the week prior to the play left parents, directors, musicians and students wondering when and how the play's multiple dimensions would come together.  Opening day, though provided an answer when audiences were treated to a spectacle of lights color, and sound that convinced them of the magical Wizard in all of us.
