Graphing Calculators
will be required for the 2008-09 school
year for all students enrolled in Algebra
II, Advanced Math, and Calculus.
Since all colleges and universities
require students to use them, we need to
keep up with the technology.
The calculators are:
Preferred: TI-84+ Silver
Edition (has the most features and
memory that will serve your child
throughout college.)
Good: Any TI 84 or TI 83
Graphing Calculator (less memory than
the Silver Edition, with all of the
features)
Acceptable: Any TI 81 or TI
82 (these do not have as many features,
but if you already have one it will
suffice)
Unacceptable: Please DO NOT
BUY the TI 89 or TI93.
These are not allowed on the ACT.
If
you want a bargain, start shopping early.
You can get a good used TI
84+Silver Edition Calculator on eBay for
about $75.
Look for one that comes with a
warranty or was used for only a semester
by a college student.
If
you want to buy a new calculator, they are
about $135 at WalMart or Office Depot, but
wait until August for Back to School sales
and rebates.
Be
sure to save your proof of purchase and
turn it in to your teacher. Schools
can redeem these "points" for
graphing calculator accessories that will
benefit all of the students.
